Lord Hill History
Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, SY2 6AX
The Lord Hill Hotel & Restaurant takes its name from Shrewsbury's most distinguished soldier Lord Rowland Hill who was born near Hawkstone in 1772.
He fought alongside the Duke of Wellington at the Battle of Waterloo and because of his valour in this and other campaigns he was honoured by Parliament and it was decided to erect a column in his honour in Shrewsbury.
This stands just 200 yards from the hotel.
